PENALIZE COMPANIES THAT OUTSOURCE AMERICAN JOBS
Tennessee workers under siege, need a champion in Washington
NASHVILLE – When the pain of outsourcing stings workers here in Tennessee, the companies responsible ought to pay a price, U.S. Senate candidate Mike Padgett said this week.
“Just last week, a computer assembly plant in La Vergne shut down 150 positions and sent the work to Juarez, Mexico,” Padgett said after visiting Rutherford County. “Let’s pass tax law to penalize companies that outsource jobs to other countries and reward the ones that create good-paying jobs here.
“Working men and women feel like they are under siege. Jobs are disappearing, wage increases have slowed to a crawl, and the cost of everything is sky-high, thanks to the price of gasoline.
“And Tennesseans have got to wonder who has their back in the Senate. When the economic stimulus package – which extended how long the unemployed could get benefits – came up, Senator Alexander voted ‘nay.’
“That’s not only callous, it is not smart business. The best way to stimulate spending and economic growth is to put money into the hands of those who will spend it the quickest: the folks who are cash-strapped for the basic needs of food, housing and gas for the car.”
“If Tennesseans will stand with me, I will find ways to protect working-class families from financial disaster and make the middle class a comfortable place to be once again.”
William "Mike" Padgett is former Knox County Clerk and small business owner. He and Patty, his wife of 37 years, have three grown children, Matt, Mark and Sara Beth
