The Issues

Mark has a four-point plan to move Knoxville forward (download the "Padgett Plan"):

1. Job Creation and Economic Growth

Mark believes the one thing Knoxville can't afford to get wrong over the next decade is growing jobs and our economy. As Mayor, Mark will:

  • Support businesses that already call Knoxville home.
  • Establish Knoxville as a great place to start a business by supporting entrepreneurs (VIDEO).
  • Proactively recruit businesses and industries that will serve as good community partners and bring the best jobs to Knoxville.
  • Promote education initiatives focused on literacy, mentoring, graduation rates, and gang prevention (VIDEO).

2.  Stronger, Safer, More Connected Neighborhoods

Mark believes you can't have a strong economy without strong, connected neighborhoods (VIDEO). As Mayor, Mark will:

  • Support neighborhood associations (and help neighborhoods without associations organize).
  • Prevent and attack the causes of crime (VIDEO).
  • Make Knoxville the most walkable and bikeable city in the Southeast by expanding greenways and parks to connect neighborhoods to downtown.
  • Support historic preservation.

3. Transparent, Accessible and Efficient Government

Mark believes cutting waste and inefficiencies in city government will allow Knoxville to redirect investment to programs and services we care most about. As Mayor, Mark will:

  • Protect taxpayer dollars.
  • Cut waste and inefficiencies.
  • Increase and simplify online access to services and records.
  • Foster open and transparent community dialogue.

4. Downtown Knoxville - Everyone's Neighborhood

Mark believes downtown Knoxville is everyone's neighborhood and the heartbeat of the region (VIDEO). As Mayor, Mark will:

  • Invest in infrastructure and broadband.
  • Leverage private investment to make redevelopment projects a reality.
  • Support arts and cultural events.
